Women, youth, and community forums

Friday afternoon I had a fantastic time with young ladies from our 47 counties aspiring leaders and those already leading young. Thanks to Akili Dada who organized Dada Dialogue/Dada Lead Forum. It was also a privilege to share a platform with Hon. Millie Odiambo, Hon. Tiya Galgalo and Mr. Baraza (The only woman in the roomđ)
A lot was shared and was a really intimate, personal conversation between sisters.
Not casting stone but some of the lessons from our experiences:
KEY; always have strong faith. Never forget your family and close friends when going up for when all else shatters they will be there. We see our brothers/men as allies and partners.
- No one gives you the time and space, youâve got to create it for yourself while strategically positioning oneself.
- Leadership is not only in politics; use the platforms already in place to bring change regardless how small
- The little efforts that form our little stories later form the bigger story
- Women have to be courageous enough to come out and seek elective positions
- Women are put on a scale be married, have children etc to be counted fit for politics or leadership
- All of those scales are meant to discredit women, we have to constantly rise above
- Political resource is not just about money, you can do your small thing that translates to community support
- Women should not shy away from entrepreneurship to create wealth and employment
- Create a brand, niche for one self. Stand out in everything you do⊠From dressing to the big things Out of sight, you will be forgotten
- Donât wait for anyone or resources before executing your idea, let them catch up with you when you doing
- Resonate with community in terms with what is culturally accepted like learning language, dressing and what you donât agree with, know how to go around it without being offensive
- Donât shy away from the media to advance your cause when necessary
- Ooh and yes darlings most definitely develop a thick skin; for us more than often we are attacked below the waist line.
- Letâs get up there using our intellect and hardwork, short cuts are short lived
- Always remember you are wonderfully and fearfully made; believe in yourself
- Learn which battles to fight and when.
- Have a big threshold for insults
- Regardless of your past or present be sure it doesnât have to determine your future
- Shadow someone you look up to for mentorship and guidance
- Help others achieve their dreams where you can as they climb up so do you.
